Summer at last… in Autumn
At last, a protracted spell of warm (hot!) and dry weather. And how bizarre that we had to wait until the start of the meteorological Autumn before it happened. It’s the fabled Indian Summer.
At last, a protracted spell of warm (hot!) and dry weather. We’ve only had to wait around four months for it! And how bizarre that we had to wait until the start of the meteorological Autumn before it happened. It’s the fabled Indian Summer. And, by the way, did you assume, like me, that the term, Indian Summer related to the country of India? Apparently not – it’s derived from the warm, hazy conditions in Autumn that were particularly good conditions for the native Americans to hunt in North America and Canada. Anyway, end of the classroom session.
Indian Summer – did it catch you unawares? Here at Streme, as you can easily understand, our sales are very much affected by the seasons and the weather. You’d be amazed at how many people never get around to planning for hot weather (or the pollen seasons) and our ‘phone lines/emails become manic when people realise they have a problem and want a solution for it. We get it – life is busy. But if you are able to plan ahead and to get your screening requirements in place before it becomes urgent, you won’t get caught unawares. We do our best to respond quickly when circumstances change at short notice but there’s only so much we can do. Take a look at our insect mesh solutions here if you want to ensure that you’re protected before next Spring comes around.
Forgive the personal note for a moment but we’re particularly glad here at Streme that the Indian Summer arrived when it did because the daughter of one of our team got married recently, right in the middle of the hot spell. It was a festival style wedding, so the gorgeous weather made all the difference. All the plans were in place for wet weather but, come the day, it was all about providing extra shade and hundreds of bottles of water to help the guests stay cool. Congratulations to Libby and Matt – we hope you have a wonderful life together!
Midge season – in Scotland, it runs from May to September (broadly, but subject to conditions, of course). Although many people assume that being bombarded by midges is an unavoidable discomfort, you can take steps to make life much more bearable. Take a look at our midge mesh solutions. As it happens, Libby and Matt are honeymooning in a riverside lodge in Perthshire, so let’s hope that the AirBnB hosts have got their act together with midge screens. We’ll report back and let you know!
Pollen screens – if you’re a sufferer, you’ll know that there are many different seasons for the many different types of pollen. September is one of the most trouble-free months so, while you’re unaffected, why not take the opportunity to order some pollen screens so that 2024 can be a much more comfortable year for you.
