Instructions below describe how to measure for both a standard casement and a traditional sliding sash window.
Use the drawings to give you the measurements for the width and height dimensions in the ‘get price’ tab:
Please ensure your measurements are entered in millimetres (mm),
Once you’ve placed your order we will contact you for measurements C, D, E & F before proceeding with the manufacture of your screen,
Please, also check your window carefully for any obstructions that need consideration when fitting your screen. These include….
If any of the above are present, please let us know, as alternative dimensions may be required.
Casement Window – side or top opener
Sash Window - fitted to full sash
Fitted Externally so the screen can be left in place without interfering with the opening and closing of the window or fitted internally
Sash Window - fitted to top or bottom sash
Fitted Internally to the lower or upper sash – Use the same principle for measuring either of the sashes
* The height of the screen can be the full height of the opening sash or the height to which you normally open your sash.
Depending on the style of your sash there may be a gap between frame D and the screen. This can be filled with UPVC trim, batten, adhesive pile seal or similar. Let us know if you need advice.

We offer two types of mesh with this screen. Your choice will depend on which insects you wish to keep out.
BetterVue insect mesh - 18 x 18 holes per square inch
Examples of insects this mesh will keep out:
BetterVue insect mesh is designed and manufactured to ensure maximum visibility (through the screen) ensuring as much light passes into the room as possible.
We recommend this mesh for all areas of the UK except in parts of Scotland where Midges are present and other parts of the UK where Corn Flies and Thunder Bugs/Thrips are present.
Midge mesh - 30 x 20 holes per square inch
This mesh will keep out:
Midge mesh has a tighter weave than BetterVue insect mesh to ensure Midges, Corn Flies and Thunder Bugs/Thrips cannot penetrate, however the visibility and airflow is reduced slightly.
We recommend this mesh in parts of Scotland where Midges are present and other parts of the UK where Corn Flies and Thunder Bugs/Thrips are present.
Please note - genuine Midge mesh is 30 x 20 - anything less e.g. 20 x 20 or 18 x 16 will not keep midges out.
Lift on/off hinges with turn buttons
This fixing consists of a 2 part hinge, one part fixes to the edge of the screen and the other to your window frame. Both are screwed in position. The two hinge parts are connected with a pin which allows you to lift the screen off the hinge for cleaning or storage. The screen is held closed with turn buttons as shown in the second image below. The button is turned through 90 degrees to lock/release the screen.
Please note: If your window handle protrudes past the framework when the window is closed just allow the screen to rest against the handle when not in use. Once your window is open you will be able to close the screen flat against the window frame.
No drilling or screwing required for this magnetic option. It consists of two, 13mm wide, self-adhesive magnetic strips, one adheres to your window frame, the other adheres to the back of the screen. The strip that adheres to your window frame is colour matched to blend in as much as possible. White for white frames and dark grey for brown or anthracite frames.
Please note: Your window handle may protrude past the framework when your window is closed. If this is the case you can remove the screen when the window is shut.
The screen is held closed with 'turn buttons' screwed into your framework to the side of the screen. The button turns through 90 degrees to lock/release the screen.
Please note: Your window handle may protrude past the framework when your window is closed. If this is the case you can remove the screen when the window is shut
Your screen will be made to your dimensions using our slim aluminium frames and neatly crimped metal corners for long lasting strength and a professional finish.
When you receive them you just unpack and put them up.
Your screen will be fitted with BetterVue® - the market leading high visibility insect mesh. This mesh is highly effective at keeping flies, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, spiders & other insects out whilst maintaining excellent airflow and minimal reduction in daylight.
Just what you need to make the most of those warm summer days!
If you live in the Highlands of Scotland, we’ve got you covered as well - choose our Genuine 30 x 20 Midge Mesh to keep those midges out. A word to the wise if we may – don’t settle for anything less than a 30 x 20 mesh – we’ve tested alternatives such as 20 x 20 and these will not keep those pesky midges away.
With a neat, slim-line powder coated aluminium frame, these screens are perfect for windows, sliding sashes, fanlights, roof lights and Velux windows and ideal for every room in the home. You can choose a White, Anthracite Grey or Brown frame and we also offer a colour coating service if you need to match a specific paint colour.
Hinged fixings allow easy opening and closing, with the option to lift off and store during the cooler months. Magnetic fixings make it easy to fit and remove as often as required and additional magnetic strip allows you to share a screen between one or more windows of the same size.
This screen is a newer version of the one we started with in the 1990’s and has been tried and tested and tested again! It represents an excellent investment if you’re looking for a good long-term solution rather than a cheap short-term fix. The frames will last for many years and the mesh can be easily replaced if needed.
We offer one of the UK’s best selection of Fly Screens, made at our Marlow factory to the utmost quality and standards. For your peace of mind, our screens come with a TWO YEAR Warranty
It’s a bit like a picture frame but with mesh instead of a picture. The frame lengths are cut to size and fitted together with crimped metal corners to make the screen frame and mesh is then fitted using a spline tool.
The frame is placed directly onto the window frame, surrounding your window opening, to create a seal between the back of the screen and the window frame and the mesh does the rest. Your chosen fixing holds the screen in place.
